Jerry Olson Releases his new book, "Surveying North of the River

The book documents all 456 of the surveyors associated with the Washington Surveyor General's Office in the Contract Era, 1851-1910. Included are biographies, photos, work assignments and internment data. Most of these surveyors were private contractors operating in a political patronage system, with a broad range of expertise and ethics.

Beginning the book is a brief history of the General Land Office in Washington and the history of the surveyors here. There are 1300+ pages, including an appendix, and nearly 800 photographs. It is published in an eBook format, and a no cost download can be arranged by e-mailing Jerry at
