Mike Odren Appointed to Design Review Board February 15, 2007
The City Council has just announced its appointment of Mike Odren, OEI Landscape Architect, to the City of Vancouver's Design Review Board. Charged with ensuring new construction maintains an attractive appearance that enhances the architectural tone of the area, Mike will be responsible for providing recommendations to the City on new development, guaranteeing compliance with the Downtown Design Guidelines Manual. Mike's experience in a variety of projects ranging from small commercial developments to large town centers will provide the board with a broad view of innovative design solutions.
As a native of Vancouver, Mike has seen the downtown core at all points of growth, from a shopping mecca in the pre-Vancouver Mall days to a desolate square, devoid of business and movement in the '80s, to today- a growing and thriving metropolitan area. He hopes to apply his knowledge of the city, along with his passion for the area and historic preservation to his new position, ensuring Vancouver continues to grow and expand.
Olson Engineering's commitment to the Design Review Committee goes back to it's inception in 1977. As a charter member, Jerry Olson served on the committee for 12 years, overseeing the design standards for many of the downtown office towers. Following Jerry's term, Drew Roslund participated for eight years on behalf of OEI and Kurt Stonex, whose term just expired, served on the committee for the past eight years.
